IT'S NOT ONLY ROCK N ROLL by Jenny Boyd

IT'S NOT ONLY ROCK N ROLL -- Jenny Boyd
Sunday 11 May 5:30pm-6:30pm
Horsebridge Centre, 11 Horsebridge Road, Whitstable CT5 1AF
Tickets: £7.50

Jenny Boyd is giving a talk about her new book in two weeks. Below is some more information about Jenny and the book.

"How do the world's most popular musicians create hit songs; is it natural talent, or do external influences affect their writing process? Dr Jenny Boyd, 60s model and ex-wife of drummer Mick Fleetwood, spent four years interviewing 75 world famous musicians and has now published her findings in a fascinating book, It's Not Only Rock and Roll. She talks to music expert Andy Miller about this original and inspiring collection, where iconic musicians reveal, many for the first time, their thoughts on creating music. Psychologist Jenny has probed the minds and souls of these artists and has delved into the drive to create, the importance of nurturing creativity, the role of unconscious influences and the effects of chemicals and drugs on the creative process. Music legends who contributed exclusive interviews include Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Julian Lennon, Don Henley, Hank Marvin, Keith Richards, Ringo Starr, Steve Winwood, Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell.

Jenny Boyd has many personal ties to the music world as former wife of Mick Fleetwood and the inspiration behind folk-rock singer Donovan's 60's hit Jennifer Juniper. She was in Rishikesh, India in 1968 with The Beatles and her sister Pattie, (former wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton). Jenny is the founder and director of Spring Workshops, organising psychotherapeutic groups for people in need of personal development."

Wed 30 July – Sat 6 September 2014

The cast and producers of Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles - the long-awaited play about the legendary music manager Brian Epstein - visited London’s Leicester Square Theatre last week to officially launch the show’s initial 6-week run at the venue this Summer.

2014 also sees Brian Epstein posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of fame after a campaign from fans and also the unveiling of a commemorative blue plaque at the London offices of Epstein’s company NEMS.

Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles is the untold story and window into the private world of the music entrepreneur whose stellar career as Beatles Manager made him a household name yet whose controversial personal life remained very much in the closet. Brian died in 1967 of an accidental overdose at the age of 32.

Acclaimed stage and TV star Andrew Lancel (Coronation Street, The Bill) and actor Will Finlason will return to the roles of Brian Epstein and the fictional character ‘This Boy’ respectively, for which they each received rave reviews during the initial run of Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles in Liverpool, where the show premiered in November 2012 as part of the city’s official Beatles 50th Anniversary celebrations at the Epstein Theatre.

Andrew Lancel said: “As a huge Beatles fan I am absolutely delighted to be returning to London and this role, wonderfully written by Andrew Sherlock. Especially in the year that would have seen Brian Epstein celebrate his 80th Birthday. It was great to see and chat to so many media representatives from outlets all over the World who wanted to hear more about the play.”

“Andrew Lancel as Epstein is terrific...
As the boy, Will Finlason gracefully mingles brashness and compassion.”
The Times

“A show of thought-provoking insight and raw emotion…
The Beatles Manager superbly portrayed by Andrew Lancel.
An experience not to be missed!”
The Stage

This two-hander play imagines this brilliant but troubled man’s drug-fuelled final days whilst looking back upon his illustrious adult life and meteoric career from his drama school days to managing the world’s biggest pop group - a must-see opportunity to discover a previously unexplored story and celebrate a true icon of 1960’s popular culture – a man who shaped music and style across the world.

Martin Witts, Artistic Director at the Leicester Square Theatre said: “We are very much looking forward to having this exciting new play in residence at the Leicester Square Theatre throughout the Summer period, it is a perfect fit for our diverse audience and a great attraction for international visitors. It’s very fitting that the show is coming to London during what is going to be a Rock and Roll year celebration of Brian Epstein’s life and the instrumental impact he had on popular music, we hope it will run and run."

Running from 30 July – 6 September 2014 at London’s Leicester Square Theatre, Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles is brought to you by Bill Elms & Jen Heyes Productions Ltd, written by Andrew Sherlock and directed by Jen Heyes.

“At times comic, at times intensely moving... Epstein is not merely an exercise in nostalgia, it also finds the real man lurking inside an enigma.”
The Arts Desk

“An evocative and moving history lesson, enlivened with wit - enthralling for those who were there (and still remember it) and for a new generation discovering their musical roots.”

It's time to make your plans for the weekend and beyond. So many Beatle events happening yet again. Be sure to check our What's On list when planning your fun. Our listing includes tribute bands, shows, cruises and even Paul and Ringo too. We are trying hard to get bands to keep the list up-to-date by sending us their gig lists, but if you know of a band we are missing, email us and we will be sure to add their gigs. Here's a snapshot of what's scheduled for the next 7 days. Link to the full What's On Page.
