Even though The Beatles were originally from Liverpool, when they became famous they had to move to London, as the music industry was based in the Capital. Although they never forgot their roots, The Fab Four were very much at the centre of what became known as Swinging London.
Presented by Richard Porter, professional Beatles tour guide, author of the book Guide to the Beatles London and owner of the Beatles Coffee Shop, this DVD takes you around all the major Beatles sites in London. Co-presenters include Tom Murray, photographer on The Beatles Mad Day photo session in 1968; and Beatles author and collector Keith Badman.
The DVD is produced by Artsmagic, who have also released DVDs of The Beatles Liverpool and Hamburg.
Sites visited include: Abbey Road; 3 Savile Row, where The Beatles gave their last ever live performance on the roof; film sites for A Hard Day’s Night and Help; their former homes; clubs where they used to hang out, and many more. We also see INSIDE the studio where The Beatles recorded Hey Jude.
The DVD also features interviews with David Janson, the then child actor who appeared in A Hard Day's Night; and Beatles author and Mersey Beat publisher Bill Harry.
A highlight is an interview Chris Dreja, guitarist of The Yardbirds, who supported The Beatles on their Christmas Show in 1964, on the very stage where they performed and backstage in the dressing rooms. Learn which famous song Paul McCartney played to The Yardbirds some eight months before it was released.
Presenter Richard Porter guides five scheduled Beatles tours a week, and is also available for private tours. For more information on his tours please see the London Beatles Walks website -- a discount is available to members of the British Beatles Fan Club.
The Beatles London DVD was released on May 29th. It is available in PAL and NTSC formats from The Beatles Coffee Shop.
