[The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour Memories]

This documentary on the making of Magical Mystery Tour, the Beatles 1967 film, has been well put together.

Not that much is known about the making of the film, but there are very interesting memories from up-to-date interviews with, amongst others, Tony Barrow (Beatles Press Officer), Mike McCartney (Paul's brother) and Frieda Kelly (the Beatles' original fan club secretary), making a very rare appearance, telling of how she was invited to appear in the film and was one of those on the coach (watch the film and see if you can spot her). It is interesting to see the influence Mike McCartney had on ideas for the film.

The DVD is superbly narrated by the wonderful Victor Spinetti, who always has fantastic memories to share. He also performs the army sergeant's speech from the film.

Fans from the period around the main locations in Newquay and West Malling also share memories of how the Beatles appearance in their towns affected the locals, including the effect of the local "Eggman" on the fabs which has to be seen, and the policeman pictured in the booklet on the original EP and how he was disciplined for his actions - how awful!!!

The documentary features a lot of previously unseen home movie footage - although a section of Ringo in the coach is repeated at least three times - as well as some fascinating photos from the period, and extracts from BBC interviews with both George and Ringo.

Others sharing their memories include Spencer Davis and Neil Innes of the Bonzos.

The DVD runs for 55 minutes with a 20 minute extra of interviews with those featured in the main feature, and there is no original Beatles music in the film.

Victor Spinetti's memories, particularly those of Help! are great viewing.

A great DVD for an insight into this film.

'Thanks for the badge and membership card. I wear the badge on my school uniform blazer, which is breaking the school dress code slightly as badges aren't allowed. I don't think the teachers mind much though as it's a band they like as well!' - Roisin Mulligan, age 15.
