This joint production between Apple and Cirque Du Soleil is dedicated to the memory of Neil Aspinall; a very fitting gesture as Neil had so much input into the making of the LOVE show and this documentary.
The documentary covers the whole project, from George Harrison's initial concept that the Beatles' music should become the foundation for a future Cirque Du Soleil project, right up to the show's premiere in Las Vegas.
George's subsequent meeting with Guy Laliberté from Cirque would prove to be the cornerstone of the project.
Paul had originally seen a Cirque production at the Albert Hall, London in 1998 and George and Olivia took him to see O in 2001, in Las Vegas.
This is a great documentary or the fan both of The Beatles and of Cirque Du Soleil. Beatle fans may say there is not enough Beatles footage, but for me the interviews with Paul, Ringo, Yoko, Olivia and George Martin are ample and show that everyone here was united in the project.
A particular interview with Neil Aspinall caught my attention. He clearly would have loved George to have had so much input, had he not sadly passed on, but Neil tells us that everyone else was more determined to make it work and succeed for him after his passing.
The work that George and Giles Martin put in, on the track "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" in adding the orchestration is documented at Abbey Road, and it is clear that Dhani (George's son) also had an input here.
Film of the premiere is featured, including footage of Cynthia and Julian at the premiere too, so for Beatles fans there are lots of interviews and images to enjoy.
Great footage of Yoko, Olivia and Barbara (the Beatle wives) is also here, but a noticeable absentee is HM (well done Apple!!)
The extras concentrate mainly on the mixing of the music, both for the CD and then the stage show, and again there are some great interviews with Paul, Ringo and Olivia here.
For me the DVD shows how close the "Beatle family" were for this project — a wonderful thing after all the squabbles and everything else they have all gone through — and a great tribute to George, whose original idea the production was.
