Art On The Underground - Beatles in Stratford

In the lead up to the 2012 Games, Art On The Underground are delivering a series of contemporary art commissions in Stratford that have individuals and communities at their heart.

The British Beatles Fan Club along with Art On The Underground presents an exhibition of Beatles memorabilia at Stratford Station.

The Beatles were in Stratford on 5th February 1967 to film scenes for the promo video of their single Penny Lane. The film crew were based at The group were filmed walking and riding horses along Angel Lane (now the Stratford Centre shopping mall) and standing by the side entrance of the Theatre Royal in Gerry Raffles Square.

John Lennon and Ringo Starr are also known to have also enjoyed a drink at The Two Puddings pub (now The Latin1/4) on Stratford Broadway.

Paul McCartney was back at the Theatre Royal Stratford in May 1967 to see The Soft Machine in concert and scenes for Ringo Starr's film The Magic Christian were filmed inside the theatre in April 1969.
