Jenny Boyd’s extraordinary life is the stuff of novels and movies.  It has been peopled by luminaries from Princess Diana to the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi; legendary bands from The Beatles to Fleetwood Mac; and set in exotic locations from Kenya, London, to India. She inspired Donovan’s famous song Jennifer Juniper and was a top fashion model, alongside her sister Pattie, in “Swinging London” at its trendy epicentre in Carnaby Street.

She was perfectly matched to the spirit of her generation. She was drawn to San Francisco during “Summer of Love”, was a friend to Hippies and Hell’s Angels, and rubbed elbows with Jefferson Airplane and Ravi Shankar at The Monterrey Pop Festival. Jenny later travelled with sister Pattie and The Beatles on their famous trip to Rishikesh, India to meditate with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.  

Back in London, Jenny ran The Beatles’ first retail store “Apple”, and then her own boutique “Juniper”, with sister, Pattie. Jenny married Mick Fleetwood; they had two daughters, Amelia and Lucy. Jenny accompanied the band from their early gigs together in rural England to Los Angeles and as they rose to 

international fame. The constant touring, coupled with drug and alcohol abuse, led to heartbreak and divorce.

About the Author

Jenny Boyd continues to be a sought-after speaker on the subject of musicians, culture, and creativity. Jenny appears in the documentaries: Beatles, Hippies and Hells Angels and It Was Fifty Years Ago Today…Sgt. Pepper and Beyond. She was interviewed for a BBC one-hour radio program aired in August A Day in The Life: The Beatles in Bangor.  Jenny has lectured on musicians and creativity at Michigan State University and has appeared on radio programs across the US and in the UK. Jenny divides her time between London, where she lives with her architect husband, and Los Angeles with her extended family (including Mick Fleetwood), her children, and grandchildren. North Wales - Opportunity to shop where The Beatles played

On Saturday July 14, 1962 The Beatles played their first ever performance in north Wales at the Rhyl Regent Dansette. Pete Best was the drummer at the time. (Ringo would replace him in August.)

They played mostly cover versions of songs like Some Other Guy, Sweet Little Sixteen and Money. A set list has not been seen but the set would be similar to those played at the Cavern in Liverpool during this period.

So why are we telling you today about this event 58 years ago? Well Sense charity, the national charity for children and Adults who are Deaf /blind and or have complex communication needs, is opening shops around Wales whose proceeds will benefit the charity and one of those shops happens to be in that very building where the Beatles performed in July 1962.

The charity is planning a Beatles themed opening for the shop at the end of February.  The shop will be filled with Beatles products that have been donated to their 100+ charity shops.

The Great British Songbook: The Beatles Reimagined

Guildhall Studio Orchestra draws upon the legacy of the Lennon and McCartney songbook, performing reworkings of hits including 'In My Life', 'Eleanor Rigby' and 'Yesterday' in a concert which celebrates Guildhall alumnus Sir George Martin’s pivotal role in the creation of these timeless songs.

This exciting evening of music features arrangements by Guildhall School’s Head of Jazz Malcolm Edmonstone which were originally commissioned by BBC Radio 2 for Friday Night is Music Night.

Check out Lennon's Strawberry Fields this Christmas

Did you know that the Strawberry Fields that figured in John Lennon's childhood and inspired the song Strawberry Field is now open to the public? 

Not only can you visit, but it is run as a charity that helps people get work.  All proceeds from these fun events go directly to their Steps to Work programme and help the Salvation Army.
